Kite surfer riding at sunset in Jericoacoara

Jericoacoara is a great place to start or spend the whole season. But those with more time soon discover that Jeri sits in the middle of one of the world’s best kite coasts: to the east, lagoons and flat-water islands; to the west, dunes, rivers and the Lençóis Maranhenses. Here are three itineraries that leave from Jeri, from the shortest to the most complete.

Before you plan

  • Season: wind season runs from July to December, peaking between September and November. Check the monthly numbers on the kite lesson page.
  • Base: stay in Jeri and take day trips, or continue to each destination to sleep there.
  • Transport: sections off the highway are covered by 4x4 or buggy. Arrange in advance.
  • Level: downwinds are only for experienced riders. If you’re starting out, prioritize the lagoons and kitesurf lessons.

3-day itinerary: Jeri and surroundings

Day 1 — Jeri. Ride on the beach or lagoon and sunset on the dune.

Day 2 — Preá. Session at Preá, one of the most famous spots in the region. For those who already ride with autonomy, the Preá → Jeri downwind is the highlight of the trip.

Day 3 — Lagoa do Paraíso. Shallow, calm water to practice tricks, and time to rest in hammocks.

7-day itinerary: Jeri, Tatajuba and Guajiru

Add to the 3-day itinerary:

Days 4 and 5 — West. Do the Jeri → Guriú downwind and continue to Tatajuba, a flat-water lagoon surrounded by dunes, far from everything.

Days 6 and 7 — East. Head to Ilha do Guajiru, in Itarema, Ceará’s most famous natural flat-water pool. On the way, those who like waves can stop at Icaraizinho de Amontada.

15-day itinerary: Route of Emotions

For those who want the complete trip, head west on the so-called Route of Emotions:

Days 1 to 5 — Jeri and Preá. Base for lessons, downwinds and lagoons.

Days 6 and 7 — Tatajuba. Lagoon and dunes before leaving Ceará.

Days 8 to 11 — Barra Grande (PI). A shallow, calm bay at low tide, great for freestyle and those who are progressing.

Days 12 to 15 — Atins (MA). River, dunes and the beginning of Lençóis Maranhenses. Flat water at the mouth and waves in the open sea.

Tips for the trip

  • Leave one day free every five: sometimes the wind takes a break, and so does your body.
  • If you’re bringing your own equipment, check the weight limits on transfers and boats.
  • Combine lessons and downwinds with local schools at each destination.
