Tatajuba Lagoon with sandbars, vegetation, and dunes under blue sky with clouds

The two main tours from Jericoacoara take their name from the direction they head: East, toward Preá and the lagoons of Jijoca, and West, toward Tatajuba and Camocim. Both are usually done by buggy and take most of the day.

East tour: the most famous

Best for: those who want to see the postcard-perfect sights, traveling with kids, or only have one day for a tour.

What’s usually included:

  • Sloth Tree — the tree that grew nearly lying down because of the wind.
  • Pedra Furada (view) — depending on tide and the route.
  • Blue Hole — a lagoon with incredibly blue water and facilities for swimming.
  • Blue Lagoon and Paradise Lagoon — the famous hammocks in the water. Read more about the lagoons.

It’s a more relaxed tour with plenty of time in the water. Ideal for unwinding.

West tour: the more adventurous

Best for: those who like wilder landscapes and a bit of adventure.

What’s usually included:

  • Ferry crossing of the Guriú river — with the buggy on top, it’s an experience in itself.
  • Mangue Seco — canoe ride through the mangrove to see seahorses up close.
  • Tatajuba dunes — enormous, with thrilling descents.
  • Tatajuba Lagoon — restaurants with feet in the sand, hammocks and swings over the water.

There’s more traveling, different landscapes at each stop, and the feeling of being very far from everything.

Buggy or quad?

In a buggy, you ride as a passenger with a local buggy driver who drives and tells stories. It fits up to 4 people and the cost is split. On a quad, you ride, always following the guide — more adrenaline, more freedom. See the buggy tour or the quad bike tour.

If you can, do both: East one day, West another, with a beach day in between to rest.
